Art Groups
The North Carolina Museum of Art houses the art
collections of the State of North Carolina. In 1947
North Carolina became the first state in the nation
to use public funds to buy a collection of art. The
Museum opened in April 1956 in a renovated state
office building in downtown Raleigh. On April 5,
1983, the Museum opened in its present facility.

The Weatherspoon Art Museum at The University
of North Carolina at Greensboro has one of the
foremost collections of modern and contemporary
art in the Southeast. Through a dynamic annual
calendar of exhibitions and educational programs,
the Weatherspoon provides an opportunity for
audiences to consider artistic, cultural, and social
issues of our time, and enriches the life of our
university and community.
The Green Hill Center for NC Art Green Hill Center
for North Carolina Art is a non-profit, visual arts
center presenting exhibitions and educational
programs focusing primarily on contemporary
North Carolina art. With Over 7,000 feet of exhibiting
gallery space, Green Hill presents ongoing
exhibitions, along with educational opportunities for
children and adults, and outreach programs. Green
Hill hosts symposia, panel discussions, lectures
and tours, and has served as a community and
statewide resource for over 30 years.
